As part of your foot pain or sports injury/biomechanics assessment and diagnosis, one treatment option we recommend, may be prescribing orthoses.
Orthoses are prescribed to offload tissue that is being overloaded, this can be bone, joints, tendons or ligaments. Reducing load on the affected structures allows the tissue to heal and/or reduce pain. This normally forms one part of a wider treatment plan.
Your foot will be casted, normally in a foam impression box.
Patients who receive general podiatry treatment may have prominent bones, corns or callus which can be painful and would benefit from being offloaded or cushioned with an insole. We would take a template of the shoe liner and foot, marking the painful areas that require offloading.
A telephone review can be scheduled to review how you are progressing with the insoles/orthoses and if there is a need for any adaptions or further treatment options.
Orthoses/Insoles can offload tissue, joints, prominent bones, corns and callus that is being overloaded, helping reduce pain.
